The Story
In 2012 Pure Freeride Design was born out of a young designer’s passion for quality craftsmanship coupled with an equal passion for skiing. After finishing a product design degree, Rupert Gammond, founder of PFD, went straight to the mountains. Over the course of six winters, both passions of creativity and freeride skiing merged together to produce fresh, purposeful designs with a pure, minimal approach.
PFD began its journey to create handmade skis in a purpose-built workshop, driven towards the perfect blend of materials, design, and a ‘no gimmick’ attitude to freeride skiing. The first two years were dedicated to development and rigorous testing, using the best possible materials to create a range of prototypes.
Working with contributors from guides to pro skiers in Sweden, Japan, and France has helped with the success of the unique designs, shaping them into something truly original. Every detail is planned and executed to deliver the highest standards of performance and aesthetics with zero margin for compromise.
2018 brings a new dimension to the brand with the release of a freeride snowboard range. The classic PFD design approach and innovative materials kick-starts this unique new line of handmade snowboards.
With total dedication to uncompromised quality, every set of bespoke handcrafted skis and snowboards is made to order for a limited number of passionate freeriders.
The Future
PFD will remain faithful to producing individual and unique pieces, whilst also developing a wider choice of possibilities and options within freeride skis and snowboards, always maintaining its values of true craftsmanship and quality.
